Worship Service – Sunday, 21 June 2020

Online Worship from Kintore for use at home. 21 June 2020

Welcome to our online Sunday worship service from Kintore. You are invited to participate in this service at home. There are written prayers for you to read, say out loud or share with your family, there are hymns and prayers you can listen to or sing along with, and there is a brief Sunday message from Neil that you can watch. These are all laid out below in an order of service for you to follow.

CALL – God calls us to worship

The steadfast love of the Lord is good.
God’s mercy is abundant.
Let us draw near to God’s presence.
AMEN.

APPROACH – We draw near to God

Opening Hymn: Jesus shall reign

Prayers of Approach and Confession

O Lord, we enter into your steadfast love, asking that you will respond to our prayers;
we trust in your abundant mercy and ask that you will come to us.
O Lord, make your presence known to us;
draw near to us; redeem us, set us free;
for we seek to be your faithful disciples.

We are sorry for the times we get our priorities wrong –
when we do not put you first;
when we fail to see the needs of our neighbours;
when we lack the courage and faithfulness of true disciples.
Grant us forgiveness;
grant us perseverance;
grant us vision;
that we may serve you as you desire,
and play our part in establishing your kingdom.
Amen.

THE WORD – God speaks to us

For the Children

It’s Fathers’ Day today. The folks at Messy Church have put together an excellent set of challenges and activities. Why not head on over to our Messy Church page for today’s Children’s Activities?

From the Bible

Jeremiah 20:7-13
O Lord, you have deceived me,
    and I was deceived;
you are stronger than I,
    and you have prevailed.
I have become a laughingstock all the day;
    everyone mocks me.
For whenever I speak, I cry out,
    I shout, “Violence and destruction!”
For the word of the Lord has become for me
    a reproach and derision all day long.
If I say, “I will not mention him,
    or speak any more in his name,”
there is in my heart as it were a burning fire
    shut up in my bones,
and I am weary with holding it in,
    and I cannot.
10 For I hear many whispering.
    Terror is on every side!
“Denounce him! Let us denounce him!”
    say all my close friends,
    watching for my fall.
“Perhaps he will be deceived;
    then we can overcome him
    and take our revenge on him.”
11 But the Lord is with me as a dread warrior;
    therefore my persecutors will stumble;
    they will not overcome me.
They will be greatly shamed,
    for they will not succeed.
Their eternal dishonor
    will never be forgotten.
12 O Lord of hosts, who tests the righteous,
    who sees the heart and the mind,[a]
let me see your vengeance upon them,
    for to you have I committed my cause.

13 Sing to the Lord;
    praise the Lord!
For he has delivered the life of the needy
    from the hand of evildoers.

Matthew 10:24-39
“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant[f] above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign[g] those of his household.

26 “So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.[h] 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?[i] And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Message: What do you do when God’s not nice?

COMMUNION – We respond to God’s Word

Song: O Lord the Clouds are gathering

Prayers of Intercession

Lord, we are your disciples:
make us one in you.

We pray for those whom you have called to service far from their homes – doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, and many more…
We are your disciples:
make us one in you.

We pray for those who serve you in the church – those who clean, make tea and wash up, arrange flowers, offer a welcome, and many more…
We are your disciples:
make us one in you.

We pray for those who serve you by telling your story – those who teach, lead assemblies, speak at meetings, preach the gospel, and many more…
We are your disciples:
make us one in you.

We pray for those who engage in a ministry of prayer – spiritual directors, group/cell leaders, prayer network coordinators, and many more…
We are your disciples:
make us one in you.

We pray for own discipleship, that we may face our challenges with courage.
We are your disciples:
make us one in you.

May our united discipleship further your work and help to establish your promised kingdom.
In your name, we pray.

Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.
Amen.
