Christ Plays in 10,000 Places

5 Missional Habits – 10,000 Times

We’re practicing the habits of highly missional people.

Inspired by Michael Frost’s book “Surprise the World” we started practicing 5 Missional habits back in September, 2019. Every time we practice one of the habits we catch a glimpse of Jesus Christ present and active in the world. The poet, Gerard Manley Hopkins, wrote that “Christ plays in 10,000 places” so we decided to start counting. We’re collecting a weekly tally of the places where we see Christ “at play”.

The habits we practice are:

BLESS: We bless someone with a kind word, an act of kindness or a gift.

EAT: We share a meal with someone (For now, we replace this habit with a friendly phone call).

LISTEN: We listen to God’s voice in prayer or listen to someone’s story.

LEARN: We learn something about Jesus.

SENT: We point out an exaple of beauty, wholeness, justice or reconciliation to someone.

If you want to keep track of the habits you’re practicing you can print this sheet.

On the first page just keep a tally (ticks or crosses) of every time you pratice one of the habits. On the second page you can write some details of the places you’ve seen God at work in the world.

Email your weekly tally and comments to nmeyer@churchofscotland.org.uk and I’ll keep our progress updated on this site.
